Paint over wood paneling – Some homeowners think they are doomed when you want to update the dark, dingy paneled room. Fearing the costs of removing the panels, along with prepping the walls for paint and many hours of work involved in such a large project, they often either postpone the project indefinitely or choose to leave the dreary rooms. Paint the panels are the answer to this dilemma. Cheap and not very time-consuming, the whole room looks brighter and immediately updated with a few coats of paint. Paint over wood paneling, remove all hardware attached to the panels, outlet covers and switch plates with a screwdriver. Tape the screws on the back of each of these covers using painters tape. This will prevent them from getting lost during the painting process. Lightly sand all the colored panels with a power sander on low, using fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe off the dust created from sanding with a clean cloth. Place the painter tape along some areas of the panel limits, such as roofs, floors or abutting cabinet.
